The GPO Museum offers engaging and educational school tours to students of all ages
Students will learn about the 1916 Easter Rising and Modern Irish History in the historic setting of the GPO
Interactive and Immersive Experiences
The historic GPO has a rich history and it was headquarters of the 1916 Easter Rising which eventually led to the creation of the Irish Republic. Students will also learn about the major milestones in modern Irish history in this historic building.
Educational visits are linked to the Primary SESE curriculum and both the Junior and Senior History curricula.
We have a variety of options for School Tours, university students and language schools where students are taken behind the historic façade of the GPO to examine modern Irish History up to present day. Students have the opportunity to reflect on how the events of the 1916 Easter Rising, War of Independence, Irish Civil War and the “Troubles” have shaped Ireland over the past 100 years. GPO Witness History places particular emphasis on those who witnessed the events of Easter Week; the rebels, crown forces, the GPO workers and the bystanders and it is their stories that are at the heart of the narrative.
GPO Witness History was acknowledged by European Museum Academy Awards as a centre of peace and reconciliation. View our short video that explains what is encapsulated on the GPO Witness History Tour.
