‘Let’s show our enemy what we women can do.’ – Kathleen Clarke, political activist and Irish rebel
Celebrate International Women’s Day at GPO Witness History with our new Rebel Irish Women’s Tour! Learn about the women who planned a very important role in the fight for Irish independence and shaped the Ireland we know today.
From actresses, spies, smugglers, activists, artist mothers and wives there was no role that was too small or unimportant. Exploring women such as Winifred Carney , Elizabeth O’ Farrell, Kathleen Clarke, Grace Gifford, Maud Gonne, Elizabeth “Lily” Mernin and Countess Markavicz, this tour will look at Ireland’s Social conditions, Political climate and the fight for Irish Freedom from the point of view of the women who were part of this movement and will show how their actions added to the conversation that was going on at the time.
Starting with the lead up to the events of 1916 and following through to modern day, join the tour to learn about the women of Ireland who through their actions made a path that women continue to learn and grow from today.
